Our Storytime with the Herd program gives children the chance to enjoy a horse-inspired story, meet one of the real horses behind Magic Valley Horses, and spend time learning and exploring in a relaxed ranch setting.
Designed for families, homeschool groups, and other small groups of children, Storytime combines reading, real horses, and simple hands-on activities for an experience that goes beyond the pages of a book.
From Pasture to Page—and Back Again
Many Magic Valley Horses stories and activities are inspired by the real horses who live here at the ranch.
During Storytime, children can make that connection for themselves.
A visit may include:
- A horse-inspired story
- Meeting one of the Magic Valley Horses
- Learning a little about the horse featured in the story
- An age-appropriate hands-on horse experience
- A horse-themed take-home surprise
The exact experience may vary depending on the story, the group, and the horses participating that day.
A Different Kind of Storytime
Children often see horses in books, movies, and pictures. Storytime at the Ranch gives them an opportunity to stand beside a real one.
They can see how big a horse really is, notice the texture of a coat and mane, watch how a horse communicates, and begin making connections between the story they have heard and the animal standing in front of them.
Our goal isn’t simply to read a book. It’s to encourage curiosity, confidence, imagination, and connection through a memorable experience with horses.
Designed for Small Groups
Storytime visits are especially well suited for:

- Preschool and early-elementary groups
- Parent and grandparent groups
- Small children’s organizations
- Groups of families looking for a unique ranch experience
Programs take place at our ranch in Harlingen, Texas.
No previous horse experience is needed, and all horse activities are conducted from the ground. There is no riding.
