Corporate Team Building with Horses
Discover, Connect and Grow Through Hands-On Experiences with Horses
Step away from the conference room and discover a different way to strengthen communication, collaboration, and leadership.
Our non-riding corporate team-building experiences use guided activities with horses to help teams see how they communicate, solve problems, respond to challenges, and work together.
No horse experience is necessary. The focus isn’t on learning horsemanship—it’s on what the horses can help your team discover about themselves and each other.

Why Horses Make Such Powerful Teachers
Horses respond honestly to what is happening around them. They are highly aware of body language, energy, consistency, and communication, and they provide immediate feedback when something changes.
That makes working with horses a powerful experiential learning tool.
Instead of simply talking about teamwork, participants have an opportunity to experience it in action. An activity may reveal how a team approaches a problem, who takes the lead, whether instructions are clear, how frustration is handled, and what happens when the first approach doesn’t work.
The horse becomes part of the learning experience—without judgment, office titles, or preconceived expectations.
Skills That Carry Back to the Workplace
Communication
Working with a horse requires clear, consistent communication. Participants become more aware of both verbal and non-verbal messages and how those messages affect others.
Collaboration
Many activities require team members to work together toward a common goal. Success depends on listening, sharing ideas, and coordinating efforts rather than simply working individually.
Leadership
Horses respond to confident, thoughtful leadership rather than force. Activities give participants opportunities to explore different leadership styles and discover how their approach influences the group.
Problem-Solving
A horse doesn’t always respond the way participants expect. Teams may need to pause, reassess, communicate differently, and try another approach—skills that translate directly to workplace challenges.
Awareness and Adaptability
Because feedback from the horse happens in the moment, participants learn to notice what is happening, make adjustments, and recognize patterns that may otherwise go unnoticed.
How Does Equine-Assisted Team Building Work?
Participants work together in structured activities with the horses and then discuss what happened during the experience.
Questions might include:
- What worked?
- What didn’t?
- How did the team make decisions?
- Was everyone heard?
- What happened when the horse didn’t respond as expected?
- What changed when the team tried a different approach?
Activities are designed to create connections to real workplace situations.
There is no riding involved. The focus is on human skills, not horsemanship skills.
A Team-Building Experience They’ll Remember
Traditional team-building activities can be useful, but working with horses creates an experience that is difficult to duplicate in a meeting room.
Participants are outside, away from their normal roles and routines, working together on challenges that are new to everyone.
That shared experience often creates conversation, laughter, unexpected discoveries, and memorable moments that teams continue talking about long after the program ends.
Meet Your Equine Partners
The horses who participate in our team-building programs are members of the Magic Valley Horses herd.
Each has a distinct personality and way of interacting with people. Some are naturally confident, some thoughtful, some patient, and some more challenging to persuade.
Those differences are part of what makes working with horses so valuable. Participants quickly discover that an approach that works with one horse—or one person—may not work with another.
Experience Behind the Program
My interest in equine-assisted learning began in the early 2000s while working with a therapeutic riding program.
One four-year-old boy made a lasting impression on me. He arrived terrified of the horses and needed considerable one-on-one encouragement just to approach one. Within only a few sessions, he was the first child in line to get “his” horse ready.
That experience led me to begin researching equine-assisted learning, attending trainings and workshops, and eventually developing programs alongside an addiction counselor for people with addictions and youth at risk.
Over the years, that work expanded into team building and other experiential programs. Again and again, I watched people have those wonderful “aha” moments when an experience with a horse helped them see something in a completely new way.
Today, that work continues at Magic Valley Horses through corporate team-building experiences designed to help people communicate, collaborate, and grow.
